My Family Culture

The three items I would take:
1. Bible
2. Photo book of my memories
3. Recipes book of all my family dishes from the D.R

I chose these items because they have a significance to me. The bible, because I believe in the power of prayer and reading the word. It will help me and my family to get through this disaster. A photo book of memories, that contains pictures of love ones, so we can reflect on  the memories that were made through pictures. Recipes book of my family dishes.There are so many dishes that were made from family members and to know how to make them will be great for our cultural background.

Upon arrival being told that I have to leave two of the items and only take one. I definitely will feel a little hurt, but I will take the most important item with me.

In this exercise I realize, that you should make as many memories as you can because you never know when an emergency might occur.

    I enjoyed reading about your three items and thought it was interesting that those were the exact items I chose to take with me in this scenario. For me the recipes are meaningful not only because they are family recipes, but because many are handwritten by my grandmother and I love looking at her handwriting and remembering her. I agree that it is important to make meaningful memories. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    I enjoyed reading your post. I chose a Bible as one of my three items as well. In the scenario we were presented for this exercise, I know my family and I would have to rely on our faith to get through it.

  Everyday I am face with being my own support. Yes I have family where I live and they do the best they can to help me when it comes to my children. However, I am my own support. "My Connections to Play"

  Growing up in the late 80's and early 90's, play was very essential to my childhood. Playing many board games and barbies was all I enjoyed doing, unless I was riding my bike. I grew up in Harlem, where we were allowed to be outside until it got dark but we, had to stay very close to the building we lived in. Parents were more into letting us play with the kids in the community and keep ourselves occupied without bothering them, that was their way of supporting playtime. As a parent I am way more active when it comes to my children playing, I engage more and I monitor the things that they do when they are playing alone. I think how we played as a child is different from children who play today. Technology has taken over, so children are barely interested in barbies and board games etc. As a child we didn't have the technology we have today, so our focus were still on toys. Relationship Reflection

  Relationships and partnerships are important to me because, it is important to have a bond with people who you can trust. In a partnership at work, shows the parent how important their child is to you.  Forming a partnership is a trust that is develop between the parent and the educator. In a work environment having a partnership with parents makes a parent feel comfortable leaving their child in your care. In relationships, you have different types one can be with friendships or family and even the love of your life. These relationships plays important role to people, because they build bonds and form a trust.  At my job I build a bond with several parents, because I want them to understand that I want the best for their child.
